Economy of the region in 2025

In 2025, 2,424 companies generated revenues of 7.2 billion EUR, an increase of 3 % over the previous year. The companies of Dolenjska and Bela krajina created 708 million euros in net profit. Main credits go to the large companies, since they generated 77.1 % of total net profit in 2025. Among the most important are Krka, d. d., Novo mesto, Revoz, d. d., Adria Mobil, d. o. o. Novo mesto, CGP, d. d., Trimo, d. o. o., TPV AUTOMOTIVE d. o. o., Kolpa, d. o. o., Metlika, Ursa Slovenija, d. o. o.

In 2025 businesses in the Dolenjska and Bela krajina region have together employed 31,427 employees.

There was also high added value, which represents the difference between the value of goods and the cost of materials and other supplies, used in manufacture. Value added per employee amounted to 81,129 euros and exceeded the national average by 17 %.

 

Pronounced export orientation of the region

The region is highly export oriented. Compared to 2024, the share of revenue achieved in the foreign markets increased by 1 % and amounted to 60.7 % in total revenue (for comparison - all of Slovenia realizes 40 % of total revenues in foreign markets), since manufacturing has the majority share. These results can also be attributed to good transportation connections.

Despite strong presence on foreign markets regional economy is constantly on the look-out for new ways of collaboration and seeks stronger position on international markets.

Structure of size and activities

Taking into account the size categories of companies, large companies accounted for the largest share of net profit, namely 77.1 %. Micro, medium-sized and large companies reported higher net profits than in 2024, while small companies reported a decrease of 1 %. According to the criterion of the companies main activity, the highest net profits were generated by companies whose principal activities were the manufacture of pharmaceutical raw materials and preparations (69.3 %), the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers, and semi-trailers (16.2 %) and the manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment (4.7 %).

Among all regions in Slovenia, economy indicators position the region covered by the Chamber of Commerce of Dolenjska and Bela krajina at the top (according to % of net sales, realized in foreign markets, the net value added per employee and the net revenues).
