Economy of the region in 2009
Despite tough economic conditions in 2009, most indicators of performance confirmed the effectiveness of our region's economy which is again exceeding the national average.
In 2009, 1,750 companies generate revenues of EUR 4.228 billion (7.7 percent less than in 2008), of which 206 million euros was net profits. Main credits go to the 31 large companies, since they generated 74% of total revenues in 2009. Among the most important are Krka, d. d., Novo mesto, Revoz, d. d., Danfos compressors, d. on. on., Adria Mobil, d. on. on., Novo mesto, CGP, d. d., Trimo, d. d., TPV, d. d., Eurotek Trebnje, d. o. o., Kolpa, d. d., Metlika, Begrad, d. d., Ursa Slovenija, d. o. o.
There was also high added value, which represents the difference between the value of goods and the cost of materials and other supplies, used in manufacture. Value added per employee amounted to 43,400 euros and exceeded the national average by almost 27%.

Pronounced export orientation of the region
The region is highly export oriented. Compared to 2008, the share of revenue realized in the foreign markets increased by 3.2 percent and amounted to 63.3% in total revenue (for comparison - all of Slovenia realizes 26.4% of total revenues in foreign markets),since manufacturing has the majority share. These results can also be attributed to good transportation connections.
Despite strong presence on foreign markets regional economy is constantly on the look-out for new ways of collaboration and seeks stronger position on international markets.

Structure of activities
Of all areas of activities in the region the manufacturing is the most important, since it has generated 77.3 % of all sales revenues and has employed 67.4 % of all employees in the region's economy in 2009. The role of manufacturing in the region is greater than its role on the national level. In Slovenia manufacturing industry has created 29% of all net sales revenues and has employed 36% of all employees in 2009. Other significant activities are commerce, car repair and construction. With the exception of textile and wood processing industry the region has highly healthy economy.
The region has a long industrial tradition with large industrial companies as pillars of the regions’ growth. We have known examples of successful foreign investments, such as Revoz d.d., Ursa Slovenija d.o.o. and Danfoss Compressors, d. o. o.

Economy indicators position the region at the top
Among all regions in Slovenia, economy indicators position the region covered by the Chamber of Commerce of Dolenjska and Bela Krajina at the top. According to % of net sales realized in foreign markets it is in the first place, while in terms of the net value added per employee and the net revenues per employee it is in the second place.
